COPIAH COUNTY, Miss. – The man accused of killing a Brandon family and leaving their bodies in an abandoned home has pleaded guilty to two counts of capital murder.
Copiah County officials said Friday that Timothy Burns accepted a plea bargain that dropped rape and arson accusations against him. He was sentenced to two life terms in prison, without the possibility of parole.
Burns had been charged in the death of 7-year-old-Jaidon Hill and his mother Atira. Hill’s stepdad, LaTerry Smith was also killed. But Burns wasn’t charged with his murder because investigators believe he was killed in Jackson.
A second man was also arrested in connection with the murders, Cedric Mason, 30.
