GAUTIER, Miss. – You now have new place to get your driver’s license in Jackson County. The building has been open for a couple of weeks now, but the “official” opening for the Albert Santa Crus Highway Patrol Building was this Tuesday.
“The old building was located at the Jackson County fairgrounds. As far as I can remember, since I was a little kid, that’s where it was. It was an outdated building, and this was long needed. One good thing about this building is the location on Highway 57, which is the diving line for the county,” said Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop K’s Corporal Jason Gazzo.
The building was named after the current Mississippi Public Safety Commissioner, Albert Santa Cruise. Cruise started as regular road trooper with Troop K and eventually worked his way up to becoming the Troop’s Commander. Later he became director for the Southern Region of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.
Cruise said at the ribbon cutting having the building named after him is “an honor I will never forget.”
