TUPELO, Miss. – A Tupelo Middle School student has been expelled from school after he says another student put a BB gun in his backpack.
Courtland Long says he didn’t know the BB gun was in his bag and even told the principal that another student had the gun. At a disciplinary hearing the mom of the other student asked the board not to discipline Courtland, but both students were expelled anyway.
The school district has a zero tolerance policy and Tupelo School Superintendent Gearl Loden issued the following statement:
“As a guiding principle of secondary schools, students in possession of a weapon or look-a-like weapon that shoots projectile objects are recommended for expulsion by the administration.”
