Blair E. Batson Hospital Receives Donation Check from MHP

JACKSON, MIss.–The Blair E. Batson Children’s hospital received a nice donation check on Wednesday from the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

It was for $42,234.66 and went to the Palliative Care Unit in the hospital. The proceeds came from the 2014 Troopers Care Scramble golf tournament.

The check was in honor of Hayden B. Casavechia who was a patient in the Palliative Care Unit and passed away last summer after an illness.

The unit itself is relatively new.

“It’s for children with chronic illness, long term illnesses, and their lifespans can be very short sometimes,” said Dr. Rick Boyte. “We hope to deliver this special care to help families and kids build hope.”:

The money given from the golf tournament will also help fund that type of care moving forward.

“These kinds of donations are very important because we don’t raise enough money naturally through patient revenue and other things to really support a program like this,” said hospital CEO Guy Giesecke. “It’s really critical to grow this service.”

First Lady of Mississippi Deborah Bryant was on hand also with the MHP troopers and she talked about visiting the children at the hospital last Christmas where this idea all started.
