Biloxi mother’s charge elevated to capital murder following infant’s death

The charge against a mother accused of killing her 5-month-old child has been upgraded following an autopsy.

On Thursday, June 13, Biloxi police responded to Merit Health Hospital after being called regarding a suspicious death. When officers arrived at the scene, they were informed by hospital staffers that two individuals, identified as 20-year-old Summer Rose Hill and 21-year-old Takavian Keivon Gibbs, had brought their deceased infant to the emergency room.

During the initial examination, medical staff discovered multiple injuries consistent with abuseHill and Jones were both arrested and charged with child abuse and given a $500,000 bond each.

Hill’s charge has since been upgraded to capital murder and her bond has been revoked following an autopsy that was conducted on the victim on Tuesday. According to the medical assessment of the baby’s death, the infant succumbed to injuries stemming from blunt force trauma.

At this time, charges against Gibbs have not been upgraded, but the investigation into the case is still active. Additional charges are still possible, per law enforcement.
