The mayor of a Mississippi town has been charged after allegedly threatening a resident at a local gas station.
A warrant was issued Monday for the arrest of Beaumont Mayor Scotty Dailey. According to WDAM, Dailey is charged with simple assault by threat, stemming from an incident last month in which the city leader is said to have discharged a firearm near another individual.
The accuser, Damon White, filed an affidavit at the Perry County Justice Clerk’s Office after the incident, asserting that he felt his life was in danger when Dailey fired the gun. White said the two men were at the Beaumont Express on the morning of Sept. 24 when an altercation ensued over White parking in front of the mayor’s vehicle.
“I was getting out of my truck and the mayor here, Scotty, he told me to get out of the way,” Dailey recounted to the TV station. “He was parked under the pavilion at the store at the door, and he just wanted to drive straight through and didn’t want to back up his truck. I told him he could just back his truck up and get out of there himself, and as soon as I started walking into the door of the store, he fired a shot off into the roof of the store.”
It’s unclear if Dailey will plead guilty or not. He was first elected in 2021 as mayor of Beaumont, which has a population of around 650 people.
