INDANOLA, Miss. – B.B. King will be laid to rest in Indianola, Mississippi later this month.
King’s attorney said the musician wanted his funeral to be held in a church that sits near the site of where he picked cotton as a boy. Details of the exact date and time of the service have not been made public. However, King’s youngest daughter posted on her facebook page that a memorial celebrating her father’s life will began this weekend in Las Vegas. “My dad’s service is next Saturday, May 23rd in Las Vegas. Lying in state Friday, May 22, 2015,” she wrote.
The executive director of the B.B. King Museum in Indianola confirmed that the public viewing will be held at Palm South Jones Mortuary in Las Vegas this Friday from 3-7 p.m. A private memorial service for King’s family and closest friends will be from 9:30 – 10:50 a.m. the following day, with a private funeral to follow.
King’s Mississippi service and burial is expected to be held a week following the events in Las Vegas. King died at his home there last week. He was 89.
