On Thursday in Ridgeland anglers took to the reservoir for the 2017 Bassmasters Elite.
This is the highest level of professional bass fishing tournaments and Mississippi is one of eight locations the tournament is hosted across the nation.
“They have serious equipment and are in it for the big bucks,” said Mary Beth Wilkerson with Ridgeland Tourism. “So we are excited Ridgeland was chosen for this event.”
The tournament began Thursday, April 27 at 6:15 a.m. with the launch. Fishermen took to the waters to start on their catch. Each day, through Sunday, April 30. Weigh in’s will happen around 3:00 each day at Old Trace Park.
“These anglers represent every single state in the union, plus Japan,” said Ridgeland Mayor, Gene McGee.
The winner of the tournament will walk away with $100,000.
Viewing is open to the public, and encouraged. Food vendors, beer gardens, and arts and crafts vendors will be located all throughout the park as spectators look on.
