GULFPORT, Miss. – Chiquita will stay at the Port of Gulfport, at least for six more months.
Port Commissioners have agreed to extend the company’s lease agreement, at double the rent. Chiquita announced in mid-May that it would leave Mississippi after 40 years. Its lease is up July 15, but its new facility at the Port of New Orleans isn’t ready yet. Under the new lease,Chiquita will pay $50,240 to lease space in Gulfport.
