A Prentiss County man has been taken into custody for allegedly shooting his fiancée with a newborn child present at the scene.
Baldwyn police allege that 26-year-old Xzvavier Hughes opened gunfire on his unidentified significant other, striking her in the face and neck, at an apartment complex on Water Street on Tuesday morning. A two-month-old child is said to have been in the residence at the time of the shooting.
Hughes was detained for the shooting and also cited for having marijuana, alcohol, and guns in the apartment unit, making it an unsafe environment for the baby.
The victim is reported to be recovering but in stable condition at a Memphis, Tenn. hospital.
Hughes is charged with attempted murder and child endangerment. He was booked into the Prentiss County Jail on a $750,000 bond.
No information has been provided regarding who has custody of the baby at this time.
