VICKSBURG, Miss.–The cities of Vicksburg and Clinton have decided to cut back due to the economy and debt.
Flaggs, who recently won election there, said he and the Board of Aldermen said this is an attempt to cut down on their debt estimated at over $1 million for the end of their fiscal year on October 1.
“There will be no employees hired and no employees given a raise for at least a year,” said Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs on Thursday.
He pointed to the debt and said it needs to be lowered so they don’t have to dip into extra funds the city has on tap.
“You can’t run a business like that and you can’t run a city like that,” he said.
The hiring freeze will run all the way through October 1, 2014.
