Authorities are warning Mississippians to be on the lookout for an inmate who escaped from Parchman.
Officials report that Nevin Whetstone, 71, escaped from a housing unit at the Mississippi State Penitentiary on Tuesday. Whetstone was in the process of serving a life sentence for a capital murder that occurred in Lee County. He was sentenced for the crime back in 1983. He had an additional year tacked onto his sentence for escaping prison in 1991.
Whetstone is described as a bald white male standing 6 feet tall and weighing around 175 pounds. His direction of travel is currently unknown.
Authorities warn the public not to approach the escaped inmate if he is spotted. Instead, folks are encouraged to call local law enforcement or 911 if they see Whetstone.
