An investigation is underway after a bomb threat was made at West Harrison High School on Thursday.
Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley reports that deputies received an anonymous phone call around 2:30 p.m. from an individual claiming to be inside the high school with weapons and an explosive device.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene. Both West Harrison High School and West Harrison Middle School were placed on lockdown with students and faculty evacuated from the facilities.
Authorities thoroughly searched both facilities. The Biloxi Police Department’s bomb squad assisted in determining if there happened to be a real threat of explosives at the schools. No weapons or explosive devices were found.
“We take these details very seriously, so we issued a lockdown of the school and began clearing every room,” Haley said. “We came up empty-handed, did a secondary search, and again came up empty-handed. At that point, we started evacuating the students. We were very prepared for this.”
Law enforcement are still searching for a suspect in connection to the threat. Both schools will return to regularly scheduled activities on Friday. Anyone with information connected to this case is urged to contact the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office at (228)897-1364.
