More economic development is coming to the Mississippi Golden Triangle.
On Monday, the Lowndes County Board of Supervisors approved plans by Aurora Flight Sciences to expand on its Columbus site. With a $43 million investment, the aerospace vehicle manufacturing company plans to construct a 50,000-square-foot facility while making improvements to its existing site.
County officials voted to allow the proposal, which is expected to create more than 60 new jobs, to move forward and agreed to a 10-year tax incentive.
Aurora, a subsidiary of defense manufacturing giant and aerospace producer Boeing, initially planted its Mississippi roots at Mississippi State University’s Raspet Flight Research Laboratory in Starkville in 2005 before moving operations to Columbus two years later.
The company is currently in the process of manufacturing composite skins for the MQ-25 Stingray for the Navy, among other projects. Opportunities at the site are continuously offered to students at East Mississippi Community College’s Communiversity and Mississippi State.
