GULFPORT, MISS– Southern Strike, a two week training program, brings training by land, sea, and air for national guardsmen from all across the Southeast.
“We create war games based on current global crises,” says Colonel Craig Ziemba, “we take it straight from the headlines.”
This training is imperative, says Ziemba, because war games provide training without being in the danger zone.
While the training is serious, they do take time to have some fun, especially when dealing with the mock “countries” that they battle during this period.
“We keep a little SEC competition,” says Colonel Ziemba. The names of the countries represent different countries. Here’s how it plays out:
