RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. – Prayer in School is a legal fight again between an atheist group and the Rankin County School district.
The American Humanist Association says the district has violated its legal agreement not to have official prayer during the school day. A student being represented by the group said the pastor of a Methodist church was allowed to pray at their district wide honors program last month.
The group has now filed a contempt motion in federal court in Jackson and is asking the judge to force the district and the school’s principal to pay a fine of a thousand each, plus access attorney fees.
