Four people are in custody after fleeing from police and driving through an area where a movie was filming before crashing.

Per a release from Madison County officials, the incident happened Friday at 10:11 a.m. District 3 Constable Richard “Taco” Johnson attempted to pull over a 2016 Dodge Charger for a traffic violation on Nissan Parkway when the driver fled.

Turning east onto Highway 51, the vehicle traveled south through residential and commercial areas, including where traffic was stopped from both directions due to the filming of a movie. The driver completely ignored where traffic was stopped and sped through, almost hitting a sheriff’s deputy.

The driver continued south on Highway 51 and lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a ditch at the intersection of Hard Times Road. The occupants then tried to run on foot but were arrested shortly after.

The four occupants, who are all 18 years old but have not had their identities released, were each charged with possession of a controlled substance while in possession of a firearm, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. The driver faces additional charges of felony fleeing, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, and improper start.

“I am thankful that this potentially dangerous situation was brought to an end with no harm or loss of life to innocent bystanders,” Johnson said. “I would also like to extend my appreciation to law enforcement officers from Gluckstadt Police Department, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and others, who worked cohesively as a team to apprehend all subjects and bring a conclusion to this situation.”

The four suspects are being held at the Madison County Detention Center. It’s unclear which movie was filming when the chase crossed into the area where crews were set up.
