Arrest Made in the Shooting of a Small Child

ABERDEEN, Miss.–The bullet that hit a three-year-old boy Monday afternoon went through his shoulder and out the other side, leaving the child bleeding, but still alive. Moments after the shooting, his mom was seen by witnesses, clutching him tightly, waiting for an ambulance.

That shooting happened at an Aberdeen apartment complex and police have arrested 34-year-old Anthony Strong. Those cops believe Strong fired into a crowd trying to hit someone else, revenge for an incident from last week that ended up hurting an unintended target.

Five to six rounds may have been fired. The child was airlifted to a Jackson hospital where he is in good condition.

“Please let law enforcement do its job,” said Police Chief Henry Randle, speaking with media Monday. “I know sometimes you may think it’s not going anywhere. It might take a little too long, but there’s no reason to rush something just because it’s so important to you and your family.”

The incident may have stemmed from the death of a 17-year-old in the town last week.

A check of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Dept. website shows Strong is no longer in Memphis.
