JACKSON, Miss. — The race for one of Mississippi’s U.S. Senate seat’s could become more crowded. The head of the Mississippi Democratic Party, Rickey Cole told News Mississippi today, “We are going to have a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2014.”
The seat the party will target is the one held since 1978 by Senator Thad Cochran. Cochran is expected to announce by the end of the year if he will run again or retire. But Cole says that decision won’t matter. “We are going to run for the United States Senate,” he said in making the Party’s position clear.
The obvious question for Cole, who is the candidate, went unanswered Tuesday. “I can’t name any names, but I have been talking to some folks,” he said.
Republican Chris McDaniel has already announced his own campaign to take on the state’s senior Senator in a GOP primary.
