The Mississippi State Auditor’s office announced Monday that a former Farmington city clerk has pleaded guilty to making fraudulent statements to the government, a crime that resulted in nearly $40,000 in misappropriated funds.
According to State Auditor Shad White, Debora Jackson, a former Farmington city clerk, turned in fraudulent timecards, used sick and vacation leave that she did not have, and calculated overtime that was not in accordance with the Federal Labor Standards Act.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy for fraud in the State Auditor’s office and will continue to work with prosecutors to deliver record results for taxpayers,” White said.
Jackson was sentenced to five years of supervised probation and has been ordered to pay $36,183.30 in restitution after pleading guilty to one count of fraudulent statements to the government. She was also ordered to pay a $1,200 fine.
