A chronic bank robber from Alabama is now behind bars after performing his latest heist in Mississippi.
According to the Flowood Police Department, officers responded to Wells Fargo Bank on Lakeland Drive after the incident occurred on Saturday at 10:05 a.m. Security video showed a white male wearing a ball cap and sunglasses approach the teller and threaten to harm her if she did not put money in the bag he was carrying. She abided and he fled on foot.
Five hours after a BOLO – or “be on the lookout” instruction – was issued to the public, Flowood police took the suspect into custody at a nearby hotel. Jay Giles, 60, of Birmingham, was charged with armed robbery and transported to the local detention center.
Police added that Giles was out on federal probation when the latest crime occurred. He had previously been arrested for a different bank robbery.
