WASHINGTON, D.C.–Your country’s lawmakers, and the ones from Mississippi, seem to be in agreement that air strikes going on in Syria right now are important in the war against ISIS, the Islamic State that has claimed responsibility for beheading American citizens.
Tuesday Sen. Thad Cochran released this statement:
“The airstrikes in Syria are an important measure needed to defeat the Islamic terrorists whose efforts to create a safe haven in Syria and northern Iraq represent a threat to U.S. security interests and the region. Work must also continue to build a strong coalition to carry out this complex and difficult campaign. As we move forward, our men and women in uniform deserve our complete support.”
Cochran is vice chairman of the Senate Defense Appropriation Subcommittee.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sen. Roger Wicker said he also supported the action.
On the House side, Representatives Steven Palazzo and Bennie Thompson both opposed funding the current plan by the president to defeat ISIS, which also includes training Syrian rebel forces and providing them with arms.
