MERIDIAN, Miss.–You might remember the day that the amber alert went out for six-year-old Jashayla Hopson. She was kidnapped from Kemper Elementary April 30 in Kemper County and just a few days later police uncovered the plot to take the little girl.
Now the accused mastermind behind the plot will get her day in court. Jessie Mae Brown Pollard has a trial set for Nov. 18.
A federal judge ordered the trial Monday.
Six other people, including a former University of Alabama football player Devonta Pollard (Jessie’s son) are charged with helping carry out the crime.
Hopson was not hurt, but police discovered after she was found on a rural road in Lauderdale County, that the victim and the accused are related. The mother and Jessie Mae Pollard are cousins and there had apparently been an inner-family fight over some land.
