MADISON COUNTY, Miss.- A driver was killed, and a passenger left in critical condition, in Madison County on Sunday after colliding with five horses on the road.
Corporal Eric D. Henry of the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) said the driver was identified as 50-year-old Carlton Trunnell of Canton. His wife, Christine Trunnell, was the passenger.
Trunnell was driving a Chrysler 300 traveling south on Goodloe Road around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday when he hit five horses that were on the road. Both Trunnell and his wife had to be cut out of the vehicle using the “jaws of life.” They were then airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC)
Trunnell died in route, and his wife has been listed in critical condition. The owner of the horses has been notified and all five were killed on scene.
