Accelerate Mississippi Recompete Strategy in Jackson has been awarded a Recompete Strategy Development Grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA).
According to the EDA, the grant is expected to identify barriers to labor force participation and occupational skills attainment in key regions and industry sectors and develop strategic implementation planning.
“The Biden-Harris Administration has continuously kept their promise to help create jobs and invest in America. I look forward to supporting the Accelerate Mississippi Recompete Strategy that will help create jobs and job training for the working-aged citizens of Jackson, Hattiesburg, and the Delta region,” Representative Bennie G. Thompson explained.
Accelerate Mississippi Recompete Strategy will use the grant to increase local coordination and planning activities to connect workers to good jobs in geographically diverse and persistently distressed communities.
“Recompete helps fulfill President Biden’s promise that no community in America will be left behind as we continue to grow our nation’s economy and invest in American workers,” U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo stated. “These Recompete grant recipients have presented a wide range of inspiring solutions to create jobs, develop long-term economic growth, and realize the full potential in communities that for too long have been overlooked or counted out.”
The Distressed Area Recompete Pilot Program — authorized by the CHIPS and Science Act — targets areas where prime-age employment is significantly lower than the national average, with the goal of closing this gap through locally driven investments.
