Absentee Voting Deadline is this Saturday in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss.- The deadline to cast an absentee ballot in person at the circuit clerk’s office is this Saturday, Nov. 1. Circuit clerks’ offices across the state will be open 8 a.m. to noon for the Nov. 4 general election.

Absentee ballots submitted by mail must be received by the circuit clerk by 5 p.m. Monday.

Absentee ballots returned by military and overseas voters must be received by 7 p.m. Tuesday.

“We’ve done a good bit of publicity to remind everyone to go vote, but this year we have two things that should help the voter turnout,” said Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.

Hosemann says they now have a polling locator they have started. If you visit www.sos.ms.gov/pollingplace it will show you where to vote, directions and also your ballot is on there.

Hosemann said, “The actual ballot you will see in the polling place will be right there on your screen. You can take a look and make your decisions or look further into a candidate’s qualifications.”

Hosemann said the other thing they’ve done that has had good reviews, especially among younger voters, they now allow you to text “msvoter” to 95577 and they will actually text you on election day and remind you that it’s time to go vote.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 4.

“It shouldn’t take you very long at all to cast your ballot. We remind everybody that America is at war, even on our own streets sometimes, we need to go cast our ballot.” Hosemann said, “That’s something people are fighting and dying for all over the world and we need to remember that and take five minutes to go cast our ballot.”
