As if they haven’t had to deal with enough, it appears a fire that occurred Sunday at Nora Davis Campus in Laurel is being investigated as arson.
The Laurel School District says an investigation has revealed extensive vandalism throughout the campus’ buildings, including busted windows and doors, expelled fire extinguishers, smashed equipment, spilled paint and janitorial supplies, pried doors, broken bathroom mirrors, ripped out wiring, flooded bathrooms, and more.
The District also states that following the December 2019 EF-3 tornado which struck the campus, salvageable items were in storage in the campus’ gymnasium. It appears boxes of books were dumped and set on fire, causing extensive smoke damage to the gym and attached offices.
The Laurel Fire Department and Laurel Police Department are in charge of the investigation. Additionally, the state fire marshal will be called in to aid in the investigation.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Laurel Police at 601-399-4440 or Crime Stoppers at 601-428-STOP (7867).
