LEAKE COUNTY, Miss.–The total of people killed in Monday’s storm was set at 13 Wednesday afternoon after another person was confirmed dead in Leake County. There were also people killed in Winston (9), Lee (1), Issaqueena (1) and Rankin (1) counties.
The National Weather Service also confirmed more tornadoes in Scott and Lauderdale counties.
The Weather Service was Tweeting their storm surveys as teams found several Ef1 and EF2 twisters had touched down. They ended their day just as they were surveying the track of a twister that started in Newton County and crossed the line into Lauderdale. That survey was expected to continue today. So far the outbreak included nearly 30 twisters, with two confirmed as EF3s and one EF4 (winds nearly 200 mph).
If you live in Tupelo and were without power after the storm, you might’ve had your lights turned back on Wednesday. TVA was energizing lines in the evening hours Wednesday.
Non-perishable food items and cleaning supplies were being requested in Tupelo. You can take them to the United Way donation site at 1031 South Green Street site. That’s the central collection point for the storm and all donations should be directed to this site.
The site is open 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Those donations can be coordinated by calling (662) 871-2819.
