BELZONI, Miss.–There was a possible tornado touchdown in Humphreys, Holmes, Attala and Winston counties Thursday evening. Now National Weather Service forecasters are warning you to get ready for an even more significant round of severe weather, starting Sunday night.
Several photos and videos of what appears to be a tornado rolled in to News Mississippi via Twitter and Facebook Thursday. That was in Belzoni, in Humphreys County. A tornado warning was issued for Holmes and Attala counties, and there were trees down and power outages reported in Lexington, near Durant and in Winston County and the city of Louisville.
“There was rotation on the radar that indicated there could’ve been a tornado, but we won’t know for certain until we have a survey team go up there,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Joanne Culin.
She said there were no injuries their office was aware of.
She also said there were multiple rounds of severe weather expected again, starting Sunday night, so you need to get ready now by having a plan.
“Multiple rounds of storms are expected to move through with all types of severe weather, hail, tornadoes, damaging winds, flooding. So we do urge residents to be aware of the weather as we get into the late parts of the weekend into the early part of the week.”
