TUPELO, Miss.–The northern half of Mississippi could have a bullseye on it this evening and early Friday as a cold front collides with humid air. You could see damaging winds, hail, and possibly an isolated tornado.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Jim Branda said that cold front coming from the mid-west is responsible.
“It looks like it should get increasingly humid later this afternoon and early evening across Mississippi,” he said. “Storms are expected to break out along the front in Arkansas and northern Louisiana and slide into north Mississippi this evening.”
He said the best chance for a tornado is in Arkansas, but the threat cannot be ruled out in Mississippi.
He said he expects the bad weather to move on into Alabama around 1 a.m.
Thursday is the four-year anniversary of the Yazoo City tornado. The EF4 killed ten people and destroyed homes and businesses as it cut a 150 mile path from Louisiana through central Mississippi, eventually dissipating near Sturgis.
