MENDENHALL, Miss. – The Simpson County school district will receive nearly $500,000 from the U.S. Department of Education to promote health.
The grant will be used to increase physical activity among the 4,100 students that attend these schools and teach them about nutrition.
Schools receiving the grants must help students meet state standards for physical education and the schools also have to teach healthy eating habits and implement certain physical fitness activities.
Simpson County is the only school district in the state to receive this kind of grant so far. There will be another 66 school districts across the nation that will also get a grant to promote physical activity and nutrition programs.
