JACKSON, Miss.–It might be just unbelievable to you that gas could get any higher, but it’s definitely been higher before. But, here’s what one oil expert says about why Monday’s Mississippi average was $3.38 per gallon.
“one of the causes of this, which doesn’t include any shortage of gasoline or crude, will continue over the next several days,” said Trilby Lundberg, who runs the Lundberg Survey. “One is we are having stronger demand than we did last year at this time, and the other is refiners have to phase in lower vapor pressure for summer blend gasoline, and this adds to cost.”
The cheapest Mississippi gas price was in Long Beach at $3.13 per gallon, followed by Meridian at $3.15.
“It’s now two months of price rises, totaling 31 cents,” said Lundberg, who predicted earlier this year that gas could go up to near $4 by summer.
