MADISON COUNTY, Miss.–It’s been a month now and still no sign of 2-year-Myra Lewis.
“The circumstances are dire,” said Robert Lowery, senior executive director for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). “As time goes on, it becomes harder and harder to find these children; and the longer they are away, the higher risk they are.”
Myra was last seen around 11 a.m. March 1 outside her rural Madison County home. The NCMEC has been involved in the search for her and sent representatives to the Madison County Sheriff department to talk with investigators. But Lowery said, “time is always the enemy, especially at the age of this child. But we don’t give up hope.”
News Mississippi called the Madison County Sheriff Department for an update on their search , but the call had not been returned by Monday night. However, in an earlier interview, Sheriff Randy Tucker said he believed Myra was still alive and somewhere in the area. Lowery agreed that it is possible Myra is okay. “If a child like this were to be killed, it would be in the early hours of the disappearance,” he explained. “There are a lot of scenarios out there in which this child could be found and returned home.”
The FBI continues to offer a $20,000 for information leading to Myra’s whereabouts. She was wearing white or khaki pants, a turquoise sweater adorned with a bear, and pink tennis shoes the day she went missing. The toddler is 37 inches tall and weighs 27 pounds. Anyone who sees her should call the Madison County Sheriff Department or your local police.
