Death Conviction Thrown Out by Miss. Supreme Court, New Trial Ordered

JACKSON, Miss. — Death row inmate, Michelle Byrom, will not be put to death. The Mississippi Supreme Court reversed her conviction Monday. She will get a new trial at the Circuit Court in Tishomingo County.

Byrom was convicted in 2000 for hiring a hit man to kill her husband. She says her original lawyer did not present any evidence that she had been sexually abused by her husband. Her lawyers also argue her son committed the crime.
