JACKSON, Miss. — It is not a question of whether or not the drugs will kill you, but will it be quick and painless. Friday, the lawyers of death row inmate Michelle Byrom filed a new lawsuit against the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) challenging the integrity of Mississippi’s execution drug.
Earlier this month lawyers learned that Brister’s H.W. Compounding pharmacy in Grenada is the supplier of the execution drug. Lawyers are now saying that since the drugs are locally mixed, MDOC cannot prove they are not counterfeit, contaminated, or expired. They want a judge to bar executions until that is proven.
