OXFORD, Miss.–He’s been trying to get out of prison ever since he went in back in 2009. Now former famed attorney Dickie Scruggs is serving his time at home.
News Mississippi learned he was released March 20. There was no confirmation from the federal Bureau of Prisons until this week. His official release date in Sept. 14. Until then, he’s at the house.
Scruggs, 67, was convicted of corruption when he tried to influence the outcome of a civil trial.
This was the one in Hinds County where Scruggs told Judge Bobby DeLaughter that he could get him a federal judgeship if DeLaughter ruled his way in the case.
This eventually got DeLaughter arrested and convicted of obstruction of justice, for which he served time in the pen.
Scruggs did his time in Montgomery.
