JACKSON, Miss. — Walking two by two, five same sex couples went to the Hinds County Courthouse Tuesday to apply for marriage licenses, but were inevitably turned down. All of them live in Mississippi, they know same sex marriage is against the law, but they feel their rejections make an impact on Mississippians.
The We Do Campaign organized the march. Organizer Rev. Jasmine Beach-Ferrara says they will continue to come to the Courthouse until Mississippi’s law changes.
In 2004 Mississippians voted with an overwhelming majority opposing same sex marriages. The Mississippians who showed up at the courthouse think it is time for another vote.
