JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi-born celebrity Lance Bass stars in a new ad released Friday by Southerners for the Freedom to Marry. The group advocates for southern states to adopt same sex marriage policies.
In the ad Bass says he believes Mississippi has taken leaps and bounds toward accepting gay couples in just the past couple of years. However, just a couple of years ago Governor Bryant had this to say in an interview with NewsMS at the Neshoba County fair. “If people want to get married, we ought to let them get married, we have enough people that won’t go and get married. – I wouldn’t say gay couples, no, I say a man and a woman. When I say couples I automatically assume it’s a man and a woman.”
The organization says the ad is part of a million dollar campaign to grow majority support for gay marriage in the South.
