JACKSON, Miss. — Should the identity of the company that makes lethal drugs for Mississippi executions be revealed? The Mississippi Department of Corrections wants to keep that a secret. They are asking a state judge for that information to be exempt from the state’s Public Records Act for reasons of safety and security.
Vanessa Carroll is a lawyer defending a death row inmate who filed a lawsuit for the lethal drug provider’s identity. She does not think the pharmaceutical company should be able to hide just because they fear an economic back lash since the lethal drugs are paid for by Mississippi tax dollars.
