HOUSTON, Miss.–Abandoning a child under the age of six and felony child abuse are the charges Cora Lynn Watkins is facing. The 25-year-old mother was still in the hospital in Tupelo Monday evening and was expected to be released withing the next few days. She is accused of leaving her baby inside a storage unit near her house in Houston.
Police Chief Billy Voyles said she did something similar back in 2010. She dropped a baby off at the salvation Army and was arrested, said Voyles.
In the latest incident, the newborn baby was found Friday when some neighbor children heard it crying.
Voyles told WTVA that Watkins delivered the baby herself, then put it in the storage. Family took her to the hospital after they found her at her job.
Watkins is expected to be put in cuffs and taken to jail once she leaves the hospital.
The baby was okay and was at LeBoheur Hospital in Memphis.
