JACKSON, Miss. – Have any legal documents or personal papers you need to get rid of? Protect you and your family from any personal information getting into the wrong hands by shredding it. This week marks the 8th annual Community Shred Days for March 7-8, 2014.
Shred Day is a day for you to gather any personal documentation containing social security numbers, addresses, credit card numbers or anything that would make it easy for someone to steal your identity or money and shred it up.
This project is an effort to promote consumer protection and awareness of identity theft and in conjunction with National Consumer Protection Week.
“It is vitally important to destroy documents that contain any information that would make it easy for a criminal to steal your identity such as social security numbers, account numbers and pin numbers,” said Attorney General Jim Hood. “We are committed to protecting Mississippians by continuing to prevent identity theft before it occurs.”
It won’t cost you anything to shred your documents at one of the six locations provided for Mississippians. You can bring up to five bags to shred.
