The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 730 new cases of COVID-19.
Today’s report brings the state’s total number of cases up to 111,322. With the confirmation of *31 additional deaths, 3,202 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus.
*MSDH Note: 9 COVID-19 related deaths occurred between September 18 and October 10, identified from a death certificate report.
The latest hospital data from the MSDH shows that overall hospitalizations have risen in five consecutive days.
In an effort to ease the stress placed on the state’s healthcare system, a new execute order was signed by Governor Tate Reeves mandating that hospitals must delay elective procedures if they cannot maintain 10% of their capacity for COVID-19 patients.
Also, nine hotspot counties have been placed under additional guidelines limiting social gatherings and mandating the use of masks.
Chickasaw, Claiborne, DeSoto, Forrest, Itawamba, Jackson, Lamar, Lee, and Neshoba.
In these counties, indoor social gatherings will be limited to 10 people or less and outdoor social gatherings will be limited to 50. Masks are required while indoors and when social distancing is not possible.
