TUPELO, Miss.–A large stash of knock-off CDs and DVDs is what cops in Tupelo found when they pulled over Mildred Jones, 49, of Pontotoc last week, but police already knew she had been selling the movies and music all over the Tupelo area, thanks to an undercover investigation by the attorney general’s “Knock Out Knock Offs” Task Force.
Once that task force got tips from the public about the counterfeit discs, the attorney general’s office, Tupelo PD, the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Dept., the North Mississippi Narcotics Task Force and Homeland Security all got involved in the investigation and arrest.
What they found: $50,000 worth of counterfeited, copyrighted materials. Yes, you can be arrested and could go to jail if you bootleg movies and CDs, is the message.
Jones faces eight years in prison if she is convicted.
Meanwhile a woman who was found guilty of passing funny money in Tupelo is going to prison. WTVA reported Wendy Nicole Vick, of Baldwyn, was set to get her sentence Feb. 28.
She pleaded guilty in October to making the fake cash and using it back in 2010.
