JACKSON, Miss.- If pregnant for 20 weeks or longer the Mississippi House voted to make getting an abortion illegal. The bill was passed Thursday with an 89-22 vote.
The Health Department’s figures show that 2,176 abortions took place in Mississippi in 2012 and two were after 20 weeks and another 382 were unknown.
There will be some exceptions if the birth would cause physical damage or death to the woman pregnant or if there’s something wrong with the fetus. The House of Representatives rejected to make an exception for pregnancies caused by rape or incest after the 20 weeks.
The bill will now go to the Senate for further decision.
