The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 1,505 new cases of COVID-19.
Today’s report brings Mississippi’s total number of cases up to 55,804. 1,563 Mississippians have passed away from the virus following the confirmation of *20 additional deaths.
MSDH Note: 4 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between May 10 and July 12, identified from death certificate reports.
Hospitalization data is not yet available for today’s report. Tuesday, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas stated that while there has been “relative stability” in the total number of COVID-19 patients in the past few days, Mississippi’s hospital system is still under “significant” stress.
Restrictions remain in place on restaurants and bars across the state, and Dr. Dobbs urged anyone who visits such an establishment that is not following the rules to fill out an online form notifying the MSDH.
These rules include capacity limits, sanitation measures, and more. Bars cannot serve alcohol after 11 p.m. and can only serve customers who are seated at a table to avoid crowding at the counter. The restrictions on bars were enacted to slow the spread of the virus within Mississippi’s younger population.
