Two talented running backs in Mississippi are garnering national attention ahead of the 2020 college football season.
Mississippi State’s Kylin Hill and Ole Miss’ Jerrion Ealy have each been named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, which is presented to the nation’s top running back each year.
Hill returns for his senior season after rushing for 1,350 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2019 en route to being named to the First Team All-SEC. While Mike Leach’s ‘air raid’ style offense favors the wide receiver position, he’ll surely find ways to get the ball into Hill’s hands in 2020.
Ealy enters his sophomore season at Ole Miss after flashing his skillset in 2019 despite a down year for the Rebels. Ealy earned Second Team All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC honors after rushing for 722 yards (6.9 yards per carry) and six touchdowns. In the passing game, Ealy caught 20 passes for 172 yards and one touchdown.
Ten semifinalists will be named in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will be announced later that month. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2020 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards.
