The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 393 new cases of COVID-19.

Today’s report brings the state’s total number of cases up 36,680. 1,250 Mississippians have passed away from the virus following the confirmation of 1 additional death.

The MSDH is now able to estimate that 25,923 Mississippians have recovered from the virus.

While today’s number of cases does represent a decline from this weekend’s reports, cases have been steadily rising in recent weeks. This has led to the implantation of mask mandates and additional social distancing guidelines in 13 Mississippi counties.

Claiborne, Desoto, Grenada, Harrison, Hinds, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Quitman, Rankin, Sunflower, Washington, and Wayne Counties.

Also, elective procedures that require an overnight stay in the hospital have been restricted in an effort to destress the state’s healthcare system as hospitalizations continue to increase.
