MSDH reports 703 new COVID-19 cases, 16 additional deaths

The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting 703 new cases of COVID-19. 

Today’s report brings the state’s total up to 33,591 cases. 1,204 Mississippians have now passed away from the virus following the confirmation of 16 additional deaths. 

MSDH Note – 3 confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between June 28 and July 8, identified from death certificate reports.

The number of COVID-19 patients in Mississippi hospitals rose to an all-time high of 686, but ICU bed usage did see a slight decrease.

There are currently 110 active outbreaks in Mississippi long-term care facilities. 

Wednesday, Governor Tate Reeves indicated that that “county-specific” orders are likely imminent. He stated that these orders will include additional social distancing measures and possible mask mandates.
