JACKSON, Miss. — Nearly $50,000 been returned to the state and local governments after several cases of fraud and embezzlement came to a close across the state. Over half of the cash came from David Kweller, a former Mississippi Department of Health employee, who was responsible for licensing and regulating different professions.
Kweller plead guilty to embezzling $26,000 when he collected money for licensing fees, fines, and penalties for the department between 2010 and 2012.
Kweller was also one of the first Mississippians to be subjected to Senate Bill 2625, which prohibits people guilty of embezzlement from working for any governmental agency in Mississippi.
