STARKVILLE, Miss. — Mississippi State basketball coach Rick Ray has issued an Instagram apology to Ole Miss Guard Marshall Henderson after mouthing something to him in the final seconds of Saturday’s game.
Television cameras showed Henderson walk in front of the Bulldogs bench talking with his teammates in a dramatic manner. Ray then said something to Henderson.
“I responded inappropriately to an Ole Miss player in our game. I reached out to Coach (Andy) Kennedy immediately to apologize and subsequently to the player too,” Ray said in his online apology. “There is no reason for a coach to ever have interaction with an opposing player, ever, regardless of the circumstances. I was more upset with our performance than the player. I was totally at fault.”
Henderson scored 19 points for the Rebels in their 82-63 win over the Bulldogs. It was the fourth straight road loss for Mississippi State. The Southeastern Conference has decided not to discipline Ray following his actions.
